Broadcast Journalism
With a clip-on mic, camera, and a vision of a Bishop Museum bustling with local visitors, I set off. Wanting to promote my workplace—a Hawaiian and polynesian history museum—to the community, I filmed a feature on Charles: a docent who overcame his fear of public speaking through sharing his Native Hawaiian heritage.
With help from PBS Hawaii’s reporters and educators, my video aired on PBS television and social media. Watching the story reach audiences far beyond the museum showed me how visual storytelling can highlight underrepresented stories in ways written journalism often cannot.
